When working with the Function wizard, arguments are entered into the boxes for values in the Function arguments window. You can enter arguments directly from the keyboard or, by clicking
Select values, select a range of values with the mouse. When you select a row, column, or range of cells with the mouse as an argument for a function, a tooltip appears with information about the size of the selected area. The tooltip is displayed as long as the left mouse button remains held down.
The data type, such as “Number,” is displayed to the right of the input box. After entering the argument, the entered value, calculated value, or sequence of values will be displayed in the same place. If the data type is incorrect or there is an error in the calculation of the nested function, the error type is displayed to the right of the box, for example, #NAME?.
The Function result box at the bottom of the window displays the calculated value of the selected function, and the Formula result box displays the calculated value of the formula entered in the cell. If a simple formula is entered in the cell, the function value will match the formula value. If you enter incorrect arguments in these boxes, the error type will be displayed.
