Delete data using the Toolbar

To delete part of the data in a cell, follow these steps:

1.Switch to cell editing mode and select the required data.

2.Clear it in one of the following ways:

On the Home tab, in the Edit group, click t_home_delete Delete.

On the Home tab, in the Edit group, click t_home_clear Clear and select Clear all in the menu that opens.

To delete all data from the cells without clearing the formatting, follow these steps:

1.Select the cell or range from which you want to delete data.

2.Clear it in one of the following ways:

On the Home tab, in the Edit group, click t_home_delete Delete.

On the Home tab, in the Edit group, click t_home_clear Clear and select Delete contents in the menu that opens.

If text formatting was applied to a cell after the data was entered, it will also be reset.

When selecting cells in a pivot table, the Clear all and Delete contents commands delete the entire table.

To delete all data in the cells and clear their formatting, follow these steps:

1.Select the cell or range from which you want to delete data.

2.On the Home tab, in the Edit group, click t_home_clear Clear and select Clear all in the menu that opens.

If filters are applied or columns or rows are hidden manually, data is deleted only from the visible cells.

Delete data using the keyboard keys

To delete one or more characters in a cell, use one of the following methods:

Place the cursor after the characters you want to delete. Delete the characters by pressing Backspace repeatedly.

Place the cursor before the characters you want to delete. Delete the characters by pressing Delete repeatedly.

To delete a word or its part in a cell, do one of the following:

Place the cursor after a word or word part that you want to delete. Press Ctrl+Backspace.

Place the cursor before a word or word part that you want to delete. Press Ctrl+Delete.

To delete some text in a cell, do the following:

1.Select the desired text.

2.Press Delete or Backspace.

To clear the content of the cell, do the following:

1.Select the cell or range to be cleared of data.

2.Press Delete or Backspace.

If filters are applied or columns or rows are hidden manually, data is deleted only from the visible cells.

If text formatting was applied to a cell after the data was entered, it will also be reset.
