Non-printable characters are conditional formatting characters that are used to arrange the content of a document but are not displayed when printed. It is useful to display them when you edit a document to avoid, for example, double spaces in the text.
To display or hide non-printable characters, on the Home tab, in the Paragraph group, click
Non-printable characters. When working in macOS, you can also select or clear the Non-printable characters checkbox in the View command menu.
