A cross-reference is a reference (link) to an element (header, list item or bookmark) located in another part of the document.
The current version of the application supports working with references to headings, numbered lists and bookmarks created directly in the application. Cross-references to footnotes, figures, tables and formulas created in third-party editors may not be displayed correctly.
Insert a cross-reference
1.Place the cursor where you want to insert the cross-reference.
2.On the toolbar, open the Insert tab and click the Cross-reference button.
3.In the Cross-reference window that opens, perform the following steps:
a.In the Reference type field, select the type of the target item: Heading, Numbered list, or Bookmark.
b.In the Refer to field, select a specific element from the document. The list is automatically populated according to the selected type. For bookmarks: check the Show system bookmarks check box to see all available items.
c.In the Insert reference to field, select which value will be displayed in the text (see table below).
4.Click the Insert button.
The window will remain open to add other cross-references. To close it, click Cancel.
Working with existing cross-references
–Follow a cross-reference: click on the cross-reference while holding down the Ctrl (Cmd) key.
–Updating cross-references: occurs automatically when you change the document.
–Editing a cross-reference: delete the old cross-reference (see below) and create a new one.
–Deleting a cross-reference: select the cross-reference in the text and press the Delete key (or Fn+Backspace).
If the link target is deleted or unavailable, the # symbol will be displayed instead of the value. Check the target item and update the cross-reference.
