Merging cells is to combine two or more adjacent cells into one. Cells may be merged both horizontally and vertically.
To merge cells, select several cells and do the following:

•Click Table > Merge cells.
•Use the button to merge cells. The button display depends on the selected cells.
•Right-click the selected area and select Merge cells in the context menu (the command displayed in the context menu depends on the selected cells).
•Press Alt+Ctrl+M ( Option+
Cmd+M) to merge cells.
The merged cell keeps formatting of the data displayed in the first cell of the selected range (including background color, font type or other formatting).
