Merging cells is to combine two or more adjacent cells into one. Cells may be merged both horizontally and vertically.

To merge cells, select several cells and do the following:

1.Select the desired cells.

2.Merge cells in one of the following ways:

Click Table > Merge cells.

Use the merge_cells button to merge cells.

Use the context menu command.

Press Alt+Ctrl+M (option Option+command Cmd+M) to merge cells.

The merged cell keeps formatting of the data displayed in the first cell of the selected range (including background color, font type or other formatting).

The merged cell will display only the data that were in the first cell of the selected range. All data in other merging cells will be lost. You are advised to merge the cells before they are filled with data.
