When cells are merged, that means that two or more adjacent cells are transformed into one. Cells can be merged horizontally and vertically.
To merge or unmerge cells, do the following:
2.Merge or unmerge cells in one of the following ways:
•In the Command menu, select Table > Merge cells or Unmerge cells.
•On the Toolbar, click Merge cells or
Unmerge cells. The way the buttons are displayed on the Toolbar depends on the selected cells.
•Right-click the selected area and select one of the following commands from the context menu: Merge cells or Unmerge cells (the display of the command in the context menu depends on the selected cells).
•Press Alt+Ctrl+M ( Option+
Cmd+M) to merge and Alt+Shift+M (
Option+
Shift+M) to unmerge cells.
The merged cell preserves the formatting of the data displayed in the first cell of the selected range (including the background fill, font outline).
When unmerging, the cell will be divided into the number of cells that was there before the merging. The data that was in the merged cell will be displayed in the upper‑left cell of the restored range, the remaining cells will be empty.
