Ruler is a tool that is displayed along the left and top edges of the document editing window. It allows you to visually control and customize page margin settings, as well as paragraph indents.
The rulers can be used to control:
–vertical and horizontal document margin sizes;
–left and right paragraph indents;
–the indentation of the first line of a paragraph.
Enable or disable rulers
To show or hide rulers, check or uncheck the Ruler check box on the View tab.
Document margins are grayed out on the rulers. Change the margin size 1.Move the cursor over the border between the gray and white areas on the horizontal or vertical ruler. The cursor will look like a double-sided arrow 2.Click and drag the field border to the desired size. Set exact field dimensions 1.Select Page setup from the Menu. 2.In the window that opens, specify the desired margin sizes. For more information, see Customize page settings. |
The horizontal ruler contains pointers for controlling paragraph indents: –Top pointer (–) - to set the first line indent. –Lower left pointer (▼) — to set the left indent of the whole paragraph. –Right pointer (▼) — to set the right indent of the paragraph. Change paragraph indentation 1.Move the cursor over the required pointer. The cursor will look like a double-sided arrow 2.Press the left mouse button and drag the pointer along the ruler.
