Create a rule of the Color scale type

To create a rule of the Color scale type for a range of cells, follow these steps:

1.Select the range of cells for which you want to create a rule.

2.Open the Create formatting rule window in one of the following ways:

•On the Home tab, in the Data group, click the arrow to the right of the  Create formatting rule button and select Color scale command from the drop-down list.

•On the Data tab, click the arrow to the right of the  Conditional formatting button and select Color scale from the drop-down menu.

•Right-click any cell in the selected range and select Create formatting rule > Color scale from the context menu.

3.In the Create formatting rule window:

•The address of the previously selected range is entered in the Apply to range box. If necessary, you can edit the address. To do this, enter it manually in the box, or click the  Select values button, select the range in the document, and then click the  Select values button again to insert the address into the box.

•In the Threshold values drop-down list, select the method for determining the lower and upper threshold values. If necessary, you can add an intermediate value by selecting the Intermediate value option.

•For the selected method (except for Largest and smallest numbers), specify the threshold values in the corresponding input boxes. For some methods, you can adjust the value in the input box using the arrows. For the Formula results method, you can select cells with values/formulas using the  Select values button.

•Click the color selection button next to the value input box and select a color for each threshold value. Methods for selecting colors using the standard pane are described, for example, in the Text color section.

4.Click OK.
