You can group data so that you can create one or more groups of rows and/or columns. This can be convenient for analyzing and displaying large amounts of data.
To group rows or columns of your choice, select them and do one of the following:
•On the Home tab, in the Cells group, click
Group. In the window that opens, click Group rows or Group columns.
•On the Home tab, in the Cells group, click the arrow to the right of the
Group button and select Group rows or Group columns.
•On the Page layout tab, click
Group. In the window that opens, click Group rows or Group columns.
•On the Page layout tab, click the arrow to the right of the
Group button and select Group rows or Group columns.
•When working in macOS, select the Data> Group rows / Group columns command from the command menu.
•Right-click the heading of the selected rows or columns and select Group rows or Group columns from the context menu.
•Press Alt+Shift+→ (Windows, Linux) or
Option+
Shift+→ (macOS). In the window that opens, click Group rows or Group columns.
Group, the Grouping window opens, where you should select which elements you want to group: Group rows or Group columns.The final row of each group is at the bottom of the group. The final column of the group is the rightmost column of the group. The heading of the final row and the final column is grayed out. You can create up to 7 levels of groups.
You can display or hide data in groups if needed. To do this, use
or
structure symbols.
To clear the grouping, follow these steps:
1.Select the rows or columns for which you want to clear the grouping.
2.Remove the grouping in one of the following ways:
•On the Home tab, in the Cells group, click the arrow to the right of the
Group button and select Clear grouping.
•On the Page layout tab, click the arrow to the right of the
Group button and select Clear grouping.
•When working in macOS, select Data > Clear grouping command from the command menu.
•Press Alt+Shift+← (Windows, Linux) or
Option+
Shift+← (macOS).
