How can we help you?

You can arrange the text of the presentation as a bulleted, numbered, or mixed list. In bulleted lists, each new item is marked with a bullet, in numbered lists with a number or letter, and in mixed lists, both bullets, numbers, and letters may be used.

Create a list

Slides designed to show textual information contain Text type boxes (text placeholders). As text in presentations is most often formatted as lists, the default list style is applied to text placeholders. Thus, the text in the placeholder is entered straight away as a list. If necessary, you can change the list in the placeholder or convert it to text.

You can also create lists manually in any other objects in the presentation. For example, in shapes or tables.

To create a list, follow these steps:

1.Specify the location/text/object to create the list:

To start a list on an empty line, place the cursor in it.

To start a list inside an object without text (except for a table), select the object.

To create a list from a single paragraph, place the cursor in the paragraph or select the entire paragraph.

To create a list of multiple paragraphs, select them in their entirety.

To create a list from text within an object, select the object.

2.Open the list settings pane in one of the following ways:

In the Format menu, select Lists.

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click the arrow to the right of the t_paragraph_bulleted_list Bulleted List, t_paragraph_mixed_list Mixed List, or t_paragraph_numbered_list Numbered List button.

Right-click to open the context menu and select the List command.

3.In the list customization pane, select the list style.

The application saves the last selected style for a bulleted, numbered, or mixed list.

To quickly create a new list in the same style as the previous one, select a location, text, or object as described above.

To create a mixed list, on the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click t_paragraph_mixed_list Mixed List.

To create a bulleted list, do one of the following:

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click t_paragraph_bulleted_list Bulleted List.

Press Ctrl+Shift+8 (Windows, Linux) or shift Shift+command Cmd+8 (macOS).

To create a numbered list, do one of the following:

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click t_paragraph_numbered_list Numbered List.

Press Ctrl+Shift+9 (Windows, Linux) or shift Shift+command Cmd+9 (macOS).

If there are no lists in the document, the default is to create a list in the style presented first in the list of bulleted, mixed, or numbered lists.

Change the list style

To change the style of the list, follow these steps:

1.Specify the text/object for which you want to change the list style:

To change the list style for a single list item, place the cursor in the item or select the entire item.

Right-click to open the context menu and select the List command.

3.Select the Default checkbox.

Customize indents

You can customize the number/bullet and text indents in the list:

For all items of the same level.

For one or more items of the same level. In this case, at the selected level, the list will split into two lists with different formatting settings.

To customize the indents, follow the steps below:

1.Specify the required items in the list:

To customize the indents for all items on the same level, place the cursor in any of these items, or select these items without sub-items.

To customize indents for one or more items in the same level, select those items without sub-items.

To configure indents for all items in a single-level list that is contained in a placeholder, shape, or image ( provided that there is nothing in that object other than a list), select that object or place the cursor in any of the items in that list.

2.Open the List Settings window using one of the following methods:

Setting

Description

Number or Bullet

The symbol of the number or bullet is shifted by the set value relative to:

Left border of the placeholder.

Left border of the shape, image, or table cell where the list is located.

You can enter the value manually, change it using the counter, the ↑ and ↓ keyboard keys, or by scrolling the mouse wheel.

One step of increasing or decreasing the value is 0.1. To increase or decrease the value by 1, do one of the following:

Change the value by holding Shift down.

Press Page Up (Windows, Linux) or Fn+ (macOS) to increase the value. Press Page Down (Windows, Linux) or Fn+ (macOS) to decrease the value.

Text

The text of the list item is shifted by the specified value relative to:

Left border of the placeholder.

Left border of the shape, image, or table cell where the list is located.

You can enter or change the value in the same way as in the Number or Bullet box.

Set the start number of the numbered list

You can change the numbering from any item in the list. For example, you can start the entire list with item 2 or place item 6 after item 3.

When the value is changed, the number format cannot be changed. That is, if the first level of the list contains Roman numerals, the new value can only be specified in Roman numerals.

The following rules apply when changing the numbering:

If you change the value for the first top-level item, the entire list is renumbered.

If you change the value for any other item in the list, the list is split. The specified value is set for the first item in the new list.

To open the numbering settings window, follow the steps below:

1.Specify the items in the list to be renumbered in one of the following ways:

Select the list item from which you want to change the numbering, or place the cursor in it.

Select multiple items from which you want to change the numbering, or all items in the list for which you want to change the numbering. The selected items should be on the same level. If the selected items have sub-items, they will inherit the new numbering automatically.

2.Open the List Numbering window using one of the following methods:

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click the arrow to the right of the t_paragraph_numbered_list Numbered List button and select Set Start Number.

Right-click to open the context menu and select the Set Start Number command.

In the List Numbering window, in the Start from box, specify the starting value of the list. In the current version of the application, you can only specify Arabic numerals as a value: 1, 2, 3, and so forth.

If the list uses a numbering format other than Arabic numerals, the specified numeric value is automatically converted to the appropriate format and displayed below the list as a tooltip. For example, if Roman numerals are used in the list and the value 28 is specified in the Start from box, the tooltip displays Number format: XXVIII.

When entering a value, the following rules apply:

If the numbering format is numeric, only a positive numeric value or zero can be specified in the input box.

If the numbering format is alphabetic, you cannot enter a zero.

If the numbering format is numeric and the list starts with zero, when the format is changed to alphabetic, the list will start with the letter “A”.

If a long number is displayed in the tooltip text, it is truncated with an ellipsis.

You can enter the value in the Start from box manually, change it using the counter, the ↑ and ↓ keyboard keys, or by scrolling the mouse wheel.

One step of increasing or decreasing the value is 1. To increase or decrease the value by 10, do one of the following:

Change the value by holding Shift down.

Press Page Up (Windows, Linux) or Fn+ (macOS) to increase the value. Press Page Down (Windows, Linux) or Fn+ (macOS) to decrease the value.

Click OK to apply the specified value.

Change the bullet format

You can change the format of the bullet:

For any level or item in the bulleted list.

For a bulleted level or bulleted item in a mixed list.

Currently, you cannot select an image as a bullet. The bullet as an image created in a third-party editor is changed to the ☒ symbol.

To change the bullet format, follow these steps:

1.Specify the required items in the list:

If you want to change the bullet format for all items in the same level, place the cursor in any of these items or select these items without sub-items. If the list is created in PowerPoint and the file is saved in .odp format, select the items without sub-items.

If you want to change the bullet format for one or more items on the same level, select those items without sub-items.

If you want to change the bullet format for multiple items at different levels, select those items.

If you want to change the bullet format for the entire list, select the list.

If you want to change the bullet format for all items in the bulleted list in a shape, select the shape.

2.Open the bullet pane in one of the following ways:

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click the arrow to the right of the t_paragraph_bulleted_list Bulleted List button and hover your mouse over the Customize Bullet command.

Right-click to open the context menu and hover the mouse cursor over the Customize Bullet command.

3.Select a bullet from the set of standard bullet or the most recently used bullets.

The None value converts the selected bulleted list items into regular paragraphs of text. In this case, paragraphs of text retain a left indentation equal to the bullet indentation at the corresponding list level.

4.If there is no suitable bullet in the set of standard and recent bullets, run the Other Bullets command. The Special Characters window opens, where you can select any other character from the fonts available in the application as a bullet.

Change the nesting level

To change the nesting level for a single item in the list, place the cursor anywhere on the item or select the entire item. To change the nesting level for a few or all items in the list, select them in their entirety.

The nesting level cannot be changed in placeholders reserved for headers.

If multiple items of different levels are selected in the list, each item is shifted one level relative to the current position.

To increase the indentation, follow the steps below:

In the Format menu, select Alignment > Increase Indent.

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click editor_increase_indent_icon Increase Indent.

Right-click to open the context menu and run the Increase Indent command.

You can also increase a single item in the list by the following method:

1.Place the cursor in front of the first word of a list item or select it in its entirety.

2.Press Tab.

To decrease the indentation, follow the steps below:

In the Format menu, select Alignment > Decrease Indent.

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click editor_decrease_indent_icon Decrease Indent.

Right-click to open the context menu and run the Decrease Indent command.

Press Shift+Tab.

You cannot use Tab and Shift+Tab to change the nesting levels of a list located in a table.

Copy and paste the list

You can copy and paste lists from the clipboard into text placeholders and objects (shapes, tables, images). Copying and pasting lists with preserving settings is supported within a single document or between MyOffice Presentation documents.

When you copy lists from MyOffice Presentation to MyOffice Text, the list settings are partially preserved.

When you copy lists from MyOffice Presentation to third-party applications and vice versa, the list settings are not saved.

Convert a list to text

To convert the list to text, do the following:

1.Specify the items in the list or the list to be converted to text:

To convert a single list item to text, place the cursor in the item or select the entire item.

To convert multiple items to text, select them in their entirety.

To convert a list within an object to text, select the object.

2.Open the list settings pane in one of the following ways:

In the Format menu, select Lists.

On the Toolbar, in the Paragraph section, click the arrow to the right of the button corresponding to the list type: t_paragraph_bulleted_list Bulleted List, t_paragraph_mixed_list Mixed List, or t_paragraph_numbered_list Numbered List.

Right-click to open the context menu and select the List command.

3.Select the None formatting type.
