Add footnote

A footnote is a reference note placed at the bottom of a page, separated from the main text by a horizontal line. Footnote numbering is automatic.

You can insert footnotes into the main document area, enter and format text within them, and insert images, tables, links, or bookmarks.

Insert a footnote

  1. Set the cursor at the desired location.
  2. On the Insert tab, click the Footnote button.
  3. Below the line at the bottom of the page, enter your text.
  4. To insert another element, use the toolbar.

You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+F (Cmd+Option+F).

Delete a footnote

  1. Select the reference number in the main text.
  2. Press Del or Backspace.

The footnote text will be deleted automatically.
