Create list

You can create bulleted and numbered lists, manage their nesting levels, and continue numbering.

In bulleted lists, each item is marked with a bullet (symbol); in numbered lists—with a number or letter.

Automatically create a list when entering text

  1. Set the cursor at the beginning of the line.
  2. If you want to create a bulleted list, enter an asterisk ***** or a hyphen -
  3. If you want to create a numbered list, enter a number or letter with a period or parenthesis: 1., 1), a., a), A., i.
  4. Press the Space or Tab key.

Convert plain text to a list

  1. Set the cursor in the desired line or select several lines or paragraphs.
  2. Click the Bulleted list or Numbered list button on the Home tab, in the Paragraph settings group.

You can also click the arrow to the right of the button and select a different list template from the menu.

Increase or decrease a list item's indent

  1. Set the cursor at the beginning of the list item.
  2. Click the Increase indent or Decrease indent button on the Home tab, in the Paragraph settings group.

You can also set the cursor at the beginning of the line and press Tab or Backspace. If the list is inside a table, the Tab key moves the cursor between cells.

Continue numbering an existing list

  1. Set the cursor at the beginning of the line where the list should continue.
  2. Enter the next number or letter in the sequence, followed by a period or parenthesis.
  3. Press Space or Tab.

You can also create a new numbered list (see above), then select Continue numbering from the context menu of the first line.

Convert a list to plain text

  1. Select the desired list items.
  2. Click the current list type's button on the Home tab, in the Paragraph settings group.

You can also click the arrow to the right of the current list type button and select None from the menu.
