Working with pivot tables

A pivot table is a powerful tool for summarizing, analyzing, and presenting large volumes of data. It allows you to group, summarize, and find patterns in information without altering the original data.

Using a pivot table, you can:

  • Structure data. You can move fields from the source table between the row, column, and filter areas to group data from the perspective you need.
  • Analyze summaries. The tool automatically calculates summaries for the grouped data, such as sum, count, average value, and other metrics.
  • Drill down into analysis. Filtering allows you to limit the data for analysis based on specific criteria, focusing on relevant segments.

This enables the use of pivot tables for tasks like sales analysis by period and category, calculating statistical totals, or comparing metrics across different groups.
