Customize shape appearance

You can customize the appearance of individual shapes.

The Shape fill and Shape outline tools are located on the Home tab, in the Shape group. The buttons display the current setting for quick use.

Quickly apply a shape fill or outline​

  1. Select the shape.
  2. Click the Shape fill or Shape outline button.

Customize shape fill​

  1. Select the shape.
  2. Click the arrow next to the Shape fill button.
  3. In the menu, select a color or image for the fill.
  4. To remove the fill, select No fill.

Customize the shape outline​

  1. Select the shape.
  2. Click the arrow next to the Shape outline button.
  3. In the menu that opens, select the color, thickness, and type of line.
  4. To remove the outline, select No outline.

When the outline is removed, a light gray frame will appear around the object. This frame is not printed or included in a PDF.
