Remove duplicates

If several users worked on one table or it was compiled from several tables, it may contain duplicate data. You can remove them automatically using the Remove duplicates command.

The command finds and deletes completely duplicate rows, keeping only the first unique record found. Hidden and filtered rows are ignored during the search. Please note that after deletion, data in hidden rows may change due to cell shifting.

The operation is not possible if the range contains array formulas, pivot table cells, merged cells, or gaps in the selection (for example, selected non-adjacent columns).

For a smart table, the operation applies to the entire table. You can use this command for the entire smart table by selecting any cell in it.

Remove duplicate data in a range of cells

  1. Select the desired cells. If one cell is selected, the system will automatically extend the selection to adjacent data.
  2. On the Data tab, click the Remove duplicates button. The Remove duplicates window will open.
  3. If the first row contains column names, enable the With header row option.
  4. If you need to include data adjacent to the selection in the search, enable the Expand automatically option.
  5. In the Columns section, disable the columns that should not be included in the comparison.
  6. Click OK.
