Content protection

You can open and view spreadsheets that were protected in other applications (such as Microsoft Excel). While you cannot edit protected areas in such a document, a range of actions are available for working with and analyzing it.

You can perform the following actions with a protected spreadsheet:

  • View the spreadsheet's content.
  • Print the document or export it to supported formats.
  • Copy the entire spreadsheet or parts of it.
  • Open and copy hyperlinks contained in cells.
  • Rename, move, delete, or add new sheets, as well as display hidden sheets. (The workbook structure protection feature that prohibits these actions is not supported).

Restrictions

  • Editing protected cells, ranges, or sheets is blocked.
  • Configuring protection (enabling, disabling, changing the password, or permissions) is not available in this application. To do this, you must open the file in the original application where the protection was set.
  • The current version of the editor does not display a visual protection indicator on a sheet's tab. The protection status only becomes apparent when you attempt to edit a locked cell.
