Customise cell conditional formatting

Conditional formatting allows you to automatically change the appearance of cells (text color, fill color, borders) based on their content. This helps you quickly highlight important data, such as cells with high values, specific dates, or recurring text.

You can set up conditional formatting using the Create formatting rule side pane.

Open the "Create formatting rule" pane

  1. Select the cells to which you want to apply the rule.
  2. In the context menu, select Create formatting rule.

You can also use the Create formatting rule button:

  • On the sidebar.
  • On the Home tab, in the Data group.
  • On the Data tab, in the Conditional formatting menu.

Create a conditional formatting rule

  1. Open the Create formatting rule pane (see above).
  2. In the Apply to range field, enter the address manually or select a range on the sheet using the Select Values button. You can drag the range boundaries using the round handles.
  3. In the Highlight section, specify the rule conditions for highlighting cells.
  4. In the Formatting section, select the style to be applied to the cells.
  5. Click OK. The rule will be applied to the selected range.

You can create multiple rules for the same range.

Remove conditional formatting rules

  1. Select the cells for which you want to remove the rules.
  2. In the context menu, select Clear rules > From selected cells.

You can also remove rules From this sheet or From entire document.

Deleting rules does not affect the contents of the cells — only their appearance.
