AI assistant

You have access to an AI assistant—an intelligent tool that helps you work with text and data in web editors faster and more efficiently. It can analyze, rephrase, shorten, translate, correct errors, and generate text and data on request.

Features of the AI assistant in the spreadsheet editor

  • Data analysis: AI can analyze a selected range or sheet and provide a summary in the form of a bulleted list.
  • Clarifying the query: if the query is unclear, the AI can ask clarifying questions in the chat. You can answer the question to continue working with the data.
  • Action suggestions: after analyzing the data, the AI can suggest additional actions (for example, inserting a table with the results).
  • Undo actions: You can undo the AI assistant’s actions using the standard Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z) command.

Enter a request into the AI assistant and generate text

  1. On the sidebar, click the AI assistant button.
  2. In the AI assistant pane, enter your query in the input field.
  3. Press Enter or click the Send button.

The AI assistant will generate a response to your request.

You can also:

  • Open the AI assistant using the context menu or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+A (Cmd+Option+A).
  • Stop response generation by clicking the Stop button.
  • Copy the response by clicking the Copy answer button.
  • Repeat your request by clicking the Try again button.
  • Paste the latest response at the cursor position in the document by clicking the Paste in document button (if pasting is available).
  • Resize the pane by dragging or clicking on its left edge.

Analyze the data in a range and get conclusions

  1. Select the desired range of data in the table or specify the sheet in the query.
  2. Enter a query, for example: "Analyze the data and draw conclusions".
  3. Press Enter or the Send button.

The AI assistant will analyze the data and display the results. You can insert the result into a document if pasting is available.

Use a ready-made request from the request library

  1. Click the Request library button. A menu with a set of ready-made requests will open.
  2. Select the desired request from the menu. The request will appear above the input field.
  3. Enter any additional text for your request in the input field.
  4. Press Enter or click the Send button.

You can also cancel the selected ready-made request by clicking the × button next to its name.

Configure the language, AI role, text tone, and response format

  1. Click the Request constructor button. The Request constructor pane will open.
  2. In the Language list, select the language to be used for the response.
  3. In the AI role list, select the role that the AI assistant should play when generating the response.
  4. In the Text tone list, select the style in which the response should be written.
  5. In the Response format list, select the level of detail for the response.
  6. Click the Apply button.

The settings will be applied to the AI assistant's next responses.

You can also clear the settings by clicking the Clear button on the Request constructor pane.

Create a new chat or open an old chat with the AI assistant

  1. Click the ☰ menu button at the top of the AI assistant pane.
  2. To create a new chat, select Create chat.
  3. To open an old chat, select Request history and choose choose the desired chat.

You can also delete an old chat by clicking the Delete button next to it.

Limitations of the AI assistant

  • Works only with the current sheet unless you specify a different one in your query.
  • Cannot insert results in view-only or comment mode.
  • Does not support the R1C1 format — it works only with A1 addresses.
